1. Today is Earth Day!

We have really worked hard this year at South Hall to recognize the good Earth benefits of recycling! Let's especially remember our recycling manners today because it's Earth Day! And we should be glad to have such a wonderful planet to live on. Just think, we could have been forced to live on Jupiter or Saturn? Yuck! Earth rocks!

And don't forget to check out a good novel before CRCT. You will definitely have some extra reading time after each section of the test, so come get a really good read! It would be awful to have to just sit silently with nothing to do or read!

See you in the library!

2. A.J. Rich's Head

For those of you who know A.J. Rich, I have always said that the only thing floating around in his head are puppy dogs and cupcakes. (kidding him of course) But Mr. Brandon Smith actually found a puppy dog cupcake this morning! It's A.J.'s brain in a box! :)

4. Happy Groundhog Day!

That's right, today, February 2nd is Groundhog Day! Have you seen the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray? It's an oldy, but a goodie. A reporter gets caught in Pennsylvania re-living Groundhog Day over and over again - it's funny!

I would say stop by the library and pick up a book on Groundhogs or Groundhog Day today, but we really don't have any (I looked). That kind of doesn't surprise me because Groundhogs aren't a typical topic middle-school students want to read about.

So instead I will say, stop by the library and pick up one of the "quick picks" we have by the front doors. These quick picks are always good reads and are displayed in a handy place where you can just pick them up, check them out, and go!

See you in the library!

5. Welcome Back!!

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back!

And we're on the down-swing of the school year! Isn't that great? I hope you all had a wonderful Break and are looking forward to cranking out this second half of the school year.

Did anyone read anything good over the Break?

I read (that's a white lie - I still have a couple of chapters left) John Grisham's new middle-school novel Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer. It's pretty good. It's a mystery/murder trial story. I haven't found out who's done it yet - I'll keep you posted. If you like murder mysteries this book is for you!

Well, I hope to see everyone soon in the library. The CRCT exams will be here before you know it, so stop by and check out a good book to read!

6. Happy Holidays!

Here's a cute video from YouTube. It's a mash-up of The Police singing "Roxanne" and the animated classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It's so neat that I thought I'd share!

I hope everyone has a great holiday break coming up. I know all of 7th grade is trying to push through research this week. Just think - if I can make it through this research - I won't have to think about it over the break!

7. Good-bye Book Fair!

Another great Fair has come and gone. I hope you stopped by and ordered the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid #5 The Ugly Truth!!! We were pre-selling it for only $7.00 before it hits the stores on November 9th. When it comes out in the stores on November 9th, it will be $14 - so we had a great deal!

Did you get close to guessing how many gumballs were in the jar? I bet not! But two lucky six graders (where were you 8th graders?!?) did! They are Dusty Lara and Claudia Reyes. Congrats you two! They won half the gum each, a book, and a poster! Here's their pics:

It's coming next week!!! Lots and lots of books under $7!!!

See you there!

9. Time is flying by. . .

blog photo Can you believe that it's about to be October? I sure can't! But I would like it if we had some cooler weather - these 90-degree-plus days are ridiculous.

You know what happens in October???

THE BOOK FAIR!!!

That's right - start collecting your quarters and dollars to get that book you've always wanted. The Fair will be here October 25-29.

And as always we will have the coin drop game - so bring on the pennies! And the guessing game - guess the correct amount in the jar and win a book, a poster and tons of candy!!

See you in the library!!

10. Firday the 13th

Did you know today is Friday the 13th???

I know for sure that nothing crazy will happen, because I'm an adult and I know, but I still feel a little creeped out about Friday the 13th. Don't you?

Anyway, who cares about the creepiness factor - - it's FRIDAY!!

We made it through our first week of school! Enjoy your weekend and remember to come to the Media Center on Monday - it will officially be open for everyone!

Have a great weekend!

11. Welcome Back!

And we're off and running! I hope everyone had a great summer! I have begun with 6th grade orientation this week and we will officially open the library next Monday, August 16th.

I hope there will be some books left for you to check out - - those 6th graders have already wiped out the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books!

Please check back to this Blog often! I like to Blog and love to post pictures and videos!

See you in the library!
