We're learning about life in the United States in the 1800s. Here we are cleaning cotton like the slaves had to before the invention of the cotton gin by Elil Whitney. Students had to make 3 piles - the seeds (to plant next year), the debris, and the usable cotton. They discovered how hard African Americans had to work!
