ART ROOM RULES/EXPECTATIONS

1. Listen when your teacher is talking.

2. Follow directions quickly.

3. Work quietly.

4. Raise your hand.

5. Make smart choices.

6. Clean up after yourself.

What happens if a student gets into trouble?

1. Warning from the teacher.

2. Continuing the behavior will result in removal from the group and 5 minutes time out spent at isolation table to cool down and think about making better choices. Homeroom teacher is notified of isolation time. Homeroom teacher has the descrestion to move the child's clip, flip card, or the equivalent in their room.

3. Student is given a chance to correct their behavior and may join the group again.

4. If student misbehaves further, the student will again spend 5 minutes in time out. Homeroom teacher will be notified, as Mrs. Ross will then request the student's clip be moved, card flipped, or the equivalent in their homeroom. A note will be sent home to the parent notifiying them of the child's misbehavior.

5. Further misbehaviors will result in an office referral for disciplinary action.

*Any student causing severe disruption will be referred to the assistant principal

immediately with a student discipline referral slip.

Documentation will be kept throughout the grading period when necessary.

My goal is to keep the child actively engaged in learning in the classroom without distractions. It is in your child’s best interest that we work together with regard to their education. In order for this plan to haveits greatest effect, I need your support.

Good Behavior Rewards

Students will be rewarded for good behavior!

How it works:

When I catch students following the rules or going above and beyond the rules, I give the "good monkey" a point. When students are misbehaving (ie. not following the rules) collectively, the "bad monkey" gets their point. At the end of class I add up the good monkey's points and the bad monkey's points. If the good monkey has the most points the students win the "GOLDEN PAINTBRUSH". If the bad monkey has the most points there is no paintbrush awarded. If there is a tie between the good monkey and bad monkey, the students recieve the "silver paintbrush". In the end, four Golden Paintbrushes equals a free art day (games, clay modeling, free draw, reading centers). No points are given for silver paintbrushes.

MAGIC POCKET NAME

Each class I will choose a random name from the class roll to "put in my pocket". The name is never told, so students do not know who it is. I will observe that student's behavior and work ethic throughout class without that student knowing. If the student does really well, the student's name will be called and awarded a trip to the treasure bucket. If the student misbehaves or does not work hard, the student's name will not be announced and no one will go to the treasure bucket.
